Crawley Timber Company purchases timber on a lump sum basis. We do selective cutting and thinning, as well as advise land owners of their options in having their timber harvested and reforested. We buy timber in Eastern North Carolina and supply International Paper Company, Georgia Pacific, Weyerhaeuser Corporation, and several smaller independent mills with various forest products. At Crawley Timber Company we believe it is important to harvest the timber, supply the mills and at the same time observe proper harvesting procedures. We comply with all the environmental regulations and the Best Management Practices as it relates to timber harvesting.
Crawley Timber Company was founded shortly after the end of World War II in the mid 1940’s by Steve Crawley’s father, Stanford M. Crawley. Steve Crawley was born in Halifax County in 1944. He grew up working with his father. After college, Steve spent 14 years in the financial field. In 1978, Steve left the financial field and came back to work with his father, because of his father’s failing health. Steve worked with his father until 1985, when Steve bought the company from his father. Steve continued to run it solely as a wood dealership. Then in September, 2002 Crawley Timber Company branched out and purchased logging equipment in order to do their own harvesting. This give’s Steve 35 years experience in purchasing and harvesting timber.
Steve Crawley is ProLogger certified, and sits on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Association of Professional Loggers, as well as the Board of Directors of North Carolina Forestry Association. Also, Steve is a licensed Real Estate Broker.
